ALMU Installs Water Service for Community Garden

ALMU crew (left to right) Lindsey Bruce, Dennis Knick and Brian Klonk install water service to Avon Lake Community Garden.

A work crew from Avon Lake Municipal Utilities spent some quality time installing water service to the Community Garden.

The ALMU Board authorized staff to assist with installing the garden’s irrigation system a year ago but work was delayed due to weather. Installation of the water and yard hydrant line was completed May 18, 2012. Staff stayed within the $5,000 budget approved by the Board and the Community Garden organization is prepared to pay for the water, as originally agreed.

Numerous volunteers have been digging out pathways, moving dirt to garden plots, delivering wood chips along pathways, and adding the finishing touches for the grand opening. Gardeners, donors, friends and the general public are invited to attend the dedication ceremony at noon on June 1. The Community Garden is located at the Troy Intermediate School, 237 Belmar Blvd.

Over 100 garden plot owners are looking forward to getting their hands dirty. For more information about the Community Garden, contact Dale Cracas at 440-933-4431 or Holly Moore Kowalski at 440-933-4695.
