Lake Erie WaterFest

WaterFest 4cBring the family. Celebrate your Great Lake.

Saturday, August 13, 2016
Miller Road Park, Avon Lake
Noon until 5 p.m. Free admission

In partnership with the City of Avon Lake and Friends of the Parks in Avon Lake

For volunteer, exhibit, or sponsorship opportunities, see bottom of page.

Lake Erie is facing some serious challenges these days. Join groups like Ohio Sea Grant, Ohio State University’s Stone Lab, U.S. Coast Guard, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Coastal Management, Watercraft and Wildlife divisions), Lorain County Metro Parks and others as they provide kid-friendly activities while sharing their mission. You’ll learn why you should care about protecting the lake, as well as how you and your children can get involved in protecting our precious natural resources.

Here’s what you’ll find.2014-08-10 04.13.54

Recreation Station. Kayaking and paddleboarding clinics and demos, fishing clinics, and tying your own fishing lures are just a few things you and your kids can try (lake conditions permitting).

Calling all triathletes (and jr. triathletes) Get immersed in Lake Erie before WaterFest even starts. SPECIAL NOTE: The erosion of Miller Road Beach may not allow the entire field to watch all starts from the beach (see photo, right), otherwise, we do not expect any impact by beach closures or toxic algae forecasts.

The WaterFest Triathlon. This sprint-length tri starts with a 1/4-mile swim from Miller Road Park (MRP) beach, the 12-mile bike portion runs the length of Avon Lake (with a beautiful cruise through Kopf Reservation), and the 5K tracks the Lake Erie shoreline.

WaterFest Duathlon. Run 5K, bike 12 miles, run 5K, using the same run and bike routes as the WaterFest Triathlon.2014-08-09 17.45.24

Jr. Splash & Dash. Held entirely inside Miller Road Park, young athletes ages 14 and younger can get in on the fun with this 100 meter Lake Erie swim and 1-mile run.
